Volunteer Health & Safety Officer

RSPCA Milton Keynes & North Bucks is an independently registered charity carrying out its direct animal welfare work in the areas of Milton Keynes and surrounding villages.

The objects of the Branch are to promote the work and objectives of the Society - to prevent cruelty, promote kindness and alleviate suffering of all animals by all lawful means.

We are looking for a volunteer Health and Safety Officer to join our Branch.

ROLE TITLE: Health and Safety Officer (Volunteer)
 

LOCATION: Based at home, but would need to be able to visit our three Charity shops throughout Milton Keynes.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES
 

To have specific responsibility for informing trustees, other branch volunteers and staff on health and safety matters relating to the activities of the branch and to assist with the implementation of good practices relating to health and safety.

  • To work with and inform the branch trustees in the first instance on all matters relating to health and safety.

  • To liaise with the Branch Support Specialists (BSSs) on implementation of new health and safety requirements and guidelines on receipt of any relevant information by the branch from the national Society.

  • To work with the appropriate trustees and staff on ensuring required training for staff on health and safety issues is carried out.

  • To work with the appropriate trustees and staff on ensuring health and safety risk assessments including manual handlingCOSHH and fire are carried out and reviewed annually.

  • To ensure, in conjunction with appropriate trustees and staff, that branch premises meet the health and safety standards required and that all statutory notices are kept up to date and displayed as appropriate.

  • To ensure, in conjunction with the trustees and appropriate staff, that the health and safety manual is made available to all staff and volunteers and updates are included.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS / QUALITIES REQUIRED
A supporter of the RSPCA, the branch and it's goals.

Own transport and valid UK driving license.
An understanding of H&S Regulations.

Health and safety training is preferred, but can be provided.

Good communication skills.
